Penn Square Condominiums

Thank you for visiting the Penn Square Website. We hope that if you aren’t already familiar with our building, this introduction will provide the information you’re looking for. If not, feel free to contact us by telephone at 303-831-7234 or by email at pennsquare@pennsquare.net.

A Brief History of our Building

Penn Square was built in 1967-68 as one of central Denver’s premier luxury high-rise apartment complexes. Located in the historic district of Capitol Hill, Penn Square commanded some of the most spectacular city & mountain views in the city and was in great demand. In the mid-1970’s, Penn Square was converted into condominiums and has remained a primarily owner-occupied building since that time. In 1996, after the successful outcome of a legal action against Dow Chemical Company, Penn Square underwent a major reconstruction and exterior renovation. Not only did this greatly enhance the structural qualities of Penn Square but allowed the modernization of the entire building exterior. To this day, the Penn Square Homeowner’s Association continually strives to improve our property and enhance the lifestyle of all Penn Square residents.

The Neighborhood

Capitol Hill was founded in the 1880s as a new residential area for Denver's wealthiest families who graced the neighborhood with some of the most beautiful mansions in the West. These include the historic Molly Brown House and governor’s mansion. The Colorado State Capitol building with its glistening golden dome is located on the neighborhood's northwest perimeter at Colfax Avenue & Lincoln Street, just at the juncture with downtown Denver. The dome is seen from many of the units at Penn Square.

Today, Capitol Hill has developed into one of Denver’s most desirable urban neighborhoods. With a diverse blend of the original mansions, quaint houses and luxury dwellings, it can be said that Capitol Hill is one of the city’s most interesting areas architecturally and demographically. A mix of young professionals, retirees, artists and local business owners, populates the neighborhood. Certain areas have a somewhat bohemian feel reminiscent of much larger cities. Many part-time residents and corporate visitors keep second homes in the area as well.

Why Penn Square?

Location, Location, Location!     Penn Square is one of central Denver’s rare high-rise buildings not located on a busy one way street. In the heart of the Capitol Hill historical district, Penn Square is a short walk to shops, restaurants, parks and markets. Downtown Denver is a ten-minute walk and the sporting, musical & cultural events at Coors Field, the Pepsi Center and Invesco field all make for a beautiful stroll on a warm summer evening. The Denver Public Library designed by Michael Graves, the Art Museum and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts are all just a short walk away. Major highways and central shopping areas are within a quick drive of Penn Square and the convenient number 10 bus stops directly in front of our main entrance. Cheesman and Congress Parks are only minutes from Penn Square and the Cherry Creek / Platte River bike & pedestrian trail system can be accessed several blocks away.

Views, Views, Views!    Perhaps the best in Denver. Stunning outlooks from every exposure,  amazing sunsets and on the Fourth of July, a fireworks display wherever you turn. Unlike so many buildings, Penn Square has no tall neighbors and  few visual obstacles so you can see the front range from Long's Peak to Pike's Peak and just about every mountain in between.  Even from the lower floors, it's a pleasure to come home and see the architecture and trees of Capitol Hill and perhaps even a glimpse of the skyline & mountains.  The rooftop at Penn Square is delightful, inside and out. With sweeping 360 degree panoramas, relax in the lounge or take a walk or jog around the outside track and enjoy one of Denver’s little known secrets.

Value, Value, Value!      Another little secret. While many Denver buyers are paying huge prices, big homeowner fees and mega-property taxes, Penn Square remains a great bargain. Perhaps because we’re not quite as new or quite as chic or perhaps because sales of older, unrenovated units have kept appraisals relatively low, there are few places that offer the great value and lifestyle of Penn Square.
